The Flag

The flag has changed over the years. Sometimes chage is good. But now I don't think it is. The flag with red cross and a white 'x' in the middle of it. 13 red and white stripes. That is the flag that should be here now. Because of Betsy Ross, now we have 50 stars. We wouldn't of had any stars. We should of kept that flag. Dwight had the admission to Hawaii as a state so they could change the flag to 50 stars.

Flag Poem

On almost every holiday or special occasion, you should hang your flag up.
Usually you put your hand over your heart when you say the National Anthem.
Respect all our flags.

Flown in the wind or outside.
Lovely red, white, and blue colors
Aways remember our flags past.
Give thanks to our flags.

Our veterans give us freedom to live life,
Our veterans have strife.

Veterans Day

Hello Families,

In honor of Veterans Day, our school will be holding an assembly tomorrow morning. We will be lucky enough to have a veteran as a guest in our classroom after the assembly. To prepare for this event, our class watched a short two minute video about the history of Veterans Day. If you are interested in viewing it, click here.

After watching the video, I presented the students with five different activities, from which they could choose one to complete. The students could write a poem, design a float, discuss the meaning behind military seals, respond to the book The Wall, or write about how our flag has changed and why. I was impressed with how quickly the students got down to work. It was amazing to see the works being created before my very eyes!

Following this post are a few of the works from today. Enjoy!

Flag Pieces

The Flags of USA
The flags of the USA range from the revalution to today. First was the flag that in 1775 was new. It has 13 sripes and the crosses of St. George and Andrew. Next was the first flag that had a star, first seen at Fort Stanwix, N.Y. Now that's pretty far. 15 stars and 15 stripes, Kentucky and Vermont were new and ripe. With new states came new stars, a point facing North towards Mars. Finally, with the admission of Hawaii, the current has 50 stars exactly.  By Somebody

Our Flag
Oder of the stars on the
Flag hasn't changed since 1818.
Uniqe is what our flag is to my heart.
Rattlesnake was on our first
flag that said DONT TREAD ON ME.

For are states and are Flag reparsents
are Freedom.
Laying the Flag over a Vetrans
casket is so very important.
Adding a star for each state
on our Flag was important.
Gorgeous is our Flag to me and more.

#1:
Flapping in the wind,
Our flag has always been there.
During every day
Proudly waving to everyone
Representing our country

Looking down at war or peace
Our flag is there
Through good or bad
Our flag is there
Holding together the USA
Our flag is there.

#2:

Freedom flowing down on us
Coming from our flag
Stars and Stripes
Guiding us to a great country
Waving in war or peace.

Hoisted for battle or honor
Starting with a snake
Turning into a respected object
Never doubting our country
Never doubting our freedom
Never doubting our abilities.

Veterens Day
Our flag today has 13 stripes and 50 stars. But what about the last flags. The Colonial flag has a huge difference from our flag today. Instead of having 7 red stripes, 6 white stripes, and 50 starts, it has a yellow flag with a snake on it and words saying don't tread on me. The grand unions differenses are instead of the stars, they have a red plus sign and a white strip through the blue area. The first flag has only few differences that there is only 13 stars on the flag. Star-spangled banner is bigger and has few differences. They are the flag has 15 stars and stripes on it. And now the flag standerd has only one difference that is there are only 20 stars. And now I have to go. Bey.

Float Pieces

My way of thanking the veterans was to make a float. The float would be red, white, and blue to represent the flag. There would be two eagles and a flag. There would be also some paper-mache war items such as cannonballs and guns. On the float there will also be varios food items to show all the people who cared for the veterins to donate like soup, bread, doughnuts, and other non-perishable items. The float edges would have clothes from Marines and other stations from the Army. That is how I would demonstrate my thanks to the veterins. By Madison

Every year on Veterans Day, people make floats to honor veterans that passed away and the ones that came back home. My float that I would design would inspire float-makers for many generations to come. I would make, the first float to float. Mine would have a yellow base to show families whose family members passed away in the war that their loved ones who still lives will have a bright future. On top of the float there will be a pathway to show that their loved ones chose the right path. There would be poppies next to the path to represent the Veterans, that lived in the families, who passed away. Now you know why people make floats on Veterans Day and why my float would be awesome!  By Adam

If I ever got to design a float for the Veterans Day parade it would have five simbles of the forces. The colors I would have are red, white, and blue. There would be colomes on the main part of the float with red, white and blue streamers. On the main part there would be vases along the outside with a single flower in them. The reason I would only put one flower in each is because we are independent and the solders who died helped up gain that, as the ones that lived too. On the inside of the float I would put our flag inside of it. The wheels would have red, white, and blue paint on them, and the float would be pulled by a red, white, or blue car. This float would not be enough to show our appreciation to the soiders but hopefully the soiders could tell we care.  By AMB

The way I would help celebrate Veterans Day is with a float. My idea float would be for all the veterans. It proboly would have all the seals on it, also it owuld be the colors of the flag. It will be big, cool, helpful! and it would have seats for the veterans al the the history of veterans. It would be powered by the sun. Also, what it would look like is having chairs for the veterans, little american flags sticking out the side, and a little thanks for freedom sticker for them. There would also be girl scouts, boy scouts, and cubscots walking behind and in front of the float. Why I would have the scouts with the float is because every year we have parades on teh 4th of july an veterans day but I would like to add a float! So that's my idea for a Veterans day float!  By Mr. Chaser
